Salley – Mr. George Lewis Webb, Jr., 84, died Friday April 7, 2017 peacefully at home surrounded by the love and care of his wife, family, and friends. George, the only child of the late George Lewis Webb, Sr. and the late Margaret Hughes Webb, was born in Houston, Texas, on March 31, 1933. He grew up in Sugarland, TX and graduated from Sugarland High School in 1951. In 1952, he was drafted into the Army and served during the Korean War. In 1960, he graduated in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Houston.

Mr. Webb began his engineering career with DuPont at the Savannah River Plant and became the Safety Supervisor for Allied Chemical Corporation in Irmo, SC. He retired from Allied Chemical in 1986. In retirement, he owned and operated Webbs’ Christmas Tree Farm and Webbs’ Country Store.

Mr. Webb and his family made their home in Salley for 53 years where he was an active member of the Salley United Methodist Church. He was a Sunday School teacher and the church’s treasurer. He was a life member of the Dean Swamp Masonic Lodge # 172. Mr. George was a member of Clemson IPTAY for over 40 years.

Mr. Webb leaves behind his loving wife of 61 years, Charlotte Jones Webb; son, David Webb (Beth) of Williston, daughter, Joan Webb Justice (Scott) of Springfield, and son, Lewis Robert “Bob” Webb (Barbara) of Neeses; and six grandchildren: Jessica Justice (fiancé Phil Reath) of Columbia, SC; Katie Justice of St. Kitts, West Indies; Grayson Webb of Clemson, SC; Russell Webb of Greenville, SC; Maggie Justice of Clemson, SC; and Jini Justice of Springfield, SC.

Mr. George Webb was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Salley United Methodist Church at P. O. Box 700, Salley, S. C. 29137, or to a charity of your choice.

The family expresses their grateful appreciation to Jennifer King, Lysa Miller-DuPree, Katherine Jordan of Hospice Care of Tri County, and home caregivers Jean Thurmond and Catherine Garvin for their compassion and care.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 pm Monday in the chapel of Blizzard Funeral Home and Cremation Services. The funeral service will be 11 am Tuesday at Salley United Methodist Church with the Revs. Frank Copeland and Dewitt Livingston officiating. Burial will be in the Salley Oakview Cemetery with Masonic Rites and Military Honors.
