Bernice Cooper Rowe

Ridge Spring - Bernice Cooper Rowe, 98, died October 12, 2018, in Saluda, SC after a short illness.  Her funeral service will be held at Ridge Spring Baptist Church, 802 West Main Street, Ridge Spring, SC, on October 17, 2018, at 11:00 A.M.  Family and friends will meet before the church service from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. Interment will follow the service at Rocky Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, 332 Rocky Grove Rd, Salley, SC.

Miss Bernice was born on July 1, 1920, in Salley, SC to Andrew Jackson Cooper and his wife Rossie Marie Williams Cooper, who have predeceased her. She had two siblings, Edmond Cooper (Melba) and Lester Cooper.  She married Cecil Rowe in 1944 and they had one son, Douglas. All have also predeceased her.

At the time she passed, Bernice Rowe had the greatest longevity as a member of Ridge Spring Baptist Church.  Bernice always talked about and appreciated her friends at Ridge Spring Baptist Church. Bernice lived by herself for many years and her family did not live nearby. Her friends at Ridge Spring Baptist Church were her real family. Miss Faye, Miss Donna, and Miss Vivian were amongst some of the friends she talked most about and Reverend Bobby Jackson was both a friend and frequent visitor. A few years ago, Bernice moved to Saluda Nursing Center where she developed many new friends. The staff there was especially attentive to her. She had a passion for puzzles – the more complicated the better.

The kindnesses extended to her over the years by her friends and acquaintances at Ridge Spring Baptist Church are truly a reflection of Christianity at work.

Bernice is survived by her niece Kathryn Cooper Smith (Greg) of Savannah, GA, and nephew Ronald Edmond Cooper (Veva Richter) of Atlanta, GA, and many grandnieces and grandnephews.
