Gwen (Mauldin) Carey

New Holland – Mrs. Gwen Mauldin Carey, 83, entered into rest Wednesday, December 19, 2018.

Mrs. Carey is the mother of Mike (Jackie) Carey of Plantation, FL, Mark (Patricia) Carey, and Melody (Ronnie) Hutto of New Holland. She is the “Nanny Gwen” grandmother of Ashley (Ryan) Soule, Brittany Carey, Jason (Aubrey) Carey, Christopher (Kim) Carey, Carey Branham, and Danielle Robinson; and great grandmother of Amber Carey, Ethan Carey, Brantley Carey, Jacob Carey, Khloe Carey, Kailey Carey, Eve Robinson, Daniel Robinson, Joseph Robinson, Abigail Robinson, and Payton Robinson. Mrs. Carey is the sister of Linda South, Henry Hoyt (Phyllis) Mauldin, Jr. of Lavonia, GA, and Kathryn (Joe) French of Clermont, GA. Mrs. Carey was married for 61 years to Lyndon “L.C.” Carey until his passing in 2017. She was born in Lavonia, GA to the late Henry Hoyt Mauldin and Jo Lynn Aderhold Mauldin.

Mrs. Carey taught elementary school at Ridge Spring and Busbee Elementary before becoming the Librarian at Busbee Elementary. She was a member of Wagener United Methodist Church, Wagener Garden Club, and Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority for Educators.

Visitation will be from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the Parrish Hall of Wagener United Methodist Church. The Service to Celebrate Mrs. Gwen’s life will be 3 pm Sunday at church sanctuary with the Rev. Jim Bennett officiating. Burial will be private. Pallbearers will be Jason Carey, Christopher Carey, Rodger Sharpe, Butch Jackson, David South, Joe French, and Hoyt Mauldin.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Epworth Children’s Home or Wagener United Methodist Church.
