Very sorry hear that Heyward passed on. I knew him from his visits way back in the early '70's when I was in Ridgeland SC. A few of us had moved from Virginia to 'Okeetee' to study and collect reptiles. He stayed at our house and we went out collecting on numerous occasions. I remember the first time he came up, stuck out his hand, and said proudly: "Heyward Clamp- Salley, South Carolina!" A few of us then were trying (and failed) to create an educational animal exhibit. Unfortunately some locals fought this in various ways and it didn't open. I left some time later to work at the Atlanta Zoo as Asst. Curator. I have very fond memories of being out in the field with Heyward.

My deepest sympathy to you, Ted and condolences to the entire family. I only met you once, when Gary and I were down for a visit. I will never forget our trip and our hunt (with Heyward and Sharon for the elusive Edisto Island 'gator. Heyward and Gary went back a long way (to the Miami Serpentarium days with Bill Haast. We shared many laughs and stories...and a few old folk songs, while we were there. As I read these entries here, I have to agree...Heyward was one of the kindest, gentlest souls I've ever met. And I will miss hearing from him from time to time via Facebook and at Christmastime. My heart is hurting too. God bless you and the rest of the family, Ted.

We are grateful that we got to know him and benefited from his knowledge of building and

My condolences to the Clamp family. I know this is a difficult time for the family and I pray God comforts and strengthens you all. May the many cherished and loving memories of Heyward comfort his family and friends. A comforting thought to keep in mind is at Revelation 21:4 "And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes; and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away." The family is in my prayers and may you all have peace of mind during this time.

We are forever grateful for our time and memories with Heyward. We had such a wonderful time filming with Heyward and Ted in our first Season of Scaly Adventures, and the adventures continued with Heyward as we continued to film more educational content for kids and families. We are so thankful that we had the opportunity to learn from him and share his knowledge with others! He is loved by our family and so many and will be greatly missed. But we know his legacy will live on in the lives of SO many forever. We send prayers of comfort to the entire family. ~Rick, Tanya and Pierce Curren~

To Ted and all the Clamp family,
Please accept my condolences for Heyward, who was one of the most enjoyable, kind-hearted people I have ever known. He was always a pleasure to be with and had a remarkable knowledge of creatures, and it was obvious that he did what he did out of love and respect for the animals that he devoted his life to understanding. His genuine personality made every television episode we did extra special and enjoyed by so many people for so many years, and he was a one of a kind spirit who will be missed but not forgotten.

Our hearts are deeply saddened by Heyward's passing. We were honored to spend the day with Heyward August 2 and part of August 3 and very appreciative of the time he spent with us and our grandson, Patton. Heyward, was a huge supporter of our daughter, Kimberly, as she earned her degrees in herpetology. We will so miss hearing about his adventures. He will be missed by many. Our hearts and thoughts are with Ted and the rest of the family. He left us far too soon.

It was a pleasure to know such a good gentleman & outdoors man as Heyward Clamp. On a family visit to the Serp the end of JULY he shared with me in the parking lot as we were leaving, he had abnormal test results on a scan. We prayed right there in the parking lot. I texted the next day to thank him again for showing my family around & said I'd pray for him every day. I feel he'd want me to share with you this part of his text back: "Thank you for your prayers. And whatever happens that's Gods will. I've had a good life. See y'all on down the road. Your friend, Heyward. My husband & I were fortunate to come to know Heyward. Grateful family & I got to see him. Prayers of comfort to all his family & many friends.~Linda
