Kenneth Lanier Smith

Wagener - Kenneth L. Smith, 73, went to his Heavenly Home on Friday, September 29, 2017 with his loving wife and family by his side. Born on June 19, 1944, Kenneth was the son of the late Norman and Josephine Hall Smith.

Kenneth is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, and his best friend Shelby C. Smith. He is the father of Kim Smith (Ric Payton) and Doug Smith (Laura Thomason) both of Wagener and Sabrena Hackman (Craig Sharpe) of Pelion. He is the grandfather of Brett Smith (Robbie), Aimee Brinson (Savanna), DJ Smith (Rebecca), Caleb Ashley, LeAnn and Dylan Rawls, Morgan (Dustin) Waller, Tori Thomason, and Brittani (Aaron) Wise, and the great-grandfather of Riley Salley, KayLeigh and Savana Waller, and Brayden, Tyeler, Kenslee and Charlee Wise. He is also survived by his brother, Alton Smith (Pam Woodward) of Aiken, brother-in-law and sisters-in-law Ed and Fran Carver and Laurine Vance, many nieces and nephews, and special friends Donnie and Patsy Cook.

Kenneth graduated from Wagener High School in 1962. He was a lifelong member of Bethcar Baptist Church where he served on the Building Committee and as a Deacon and Chairman of Deacons. He was also a member of the Men’s Sunday School Class. Kenneth retired from the Town of Wagener in 2011, where he served as the Water and Wastewater Operator/Supervisor.

Kenneth and his wife, Shelby, owned and operated S&S Farms for over 20 years. He enjoyed farming and taking care of his chickens and cows. His favorite hobby was restoring old tractors. He is dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all!

Visitation for Kenneth will be Sunday, October 1, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm in the Chapel of Blizzard Funeral and Cremation Services, 163 Main Street South, Wagener, SC 29164. A service to celebrate Kenneth’s life will be at 2 pm Monday at Bethcar Baptist Church.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Kenneth will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service. Chris Addy will be ministering to the family. The family will also be receiving visitors at the home.
