Sara Elizabeth (Mitchell) Gantt

Mrs. Sara Elizabeth (Mitchell) Gantt, 90, entered into rest Wednesday, August 14, 2019.

Mrs. Gantt has been a resident of Charleston, S.C since 2017.  She was born January 16, 1929 to the late Martin Witt Mitchell and Maybelle (Smith) Mitchell in Saluda, S.C.  She graduated from Winthrop College. She married Brunson Gantt on April 21, 1950. Brunson passed away in 2005.  She was a teacher at Wagener -Salley High School for 34 years. 

Mrs. Gantt enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, directing weddings, traveling on bus trips, cooking and sewing.  She enjoyed volunteering with special needs students in her daughter’s classroom.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Wagener where she was active in many activities for many years.  During her time in Charleston, she attended First Christian Church Disciples of Christ . 

Mrs. Gantt is survived by her daughter, Angela Carothers, niece Elisabeth Mitchell, nephew John Mitchell, great nieces; Casey Lea Lewis and Sherry Ann Jennings, and her cat, Sweetie Pie. Special friends include Danielle Carothers, Emma Carothers, Trish Carothers, Louis Franz, Olivia Franz, Tammy Davidson, Wayne (DeWeise) Pippen, and Alan (Cindy) Spradley.

Preceding Mrs. Gantt in death were her parents, her husband and her brothers J. B. Mitchell, Martin Witt Mitchell and her son-law, Barry Carothers.

Visitation will be held Saturday, August 17, 2019 at First Baptist Church in Wagener from 10-11 am.  Funeral service will begin at 11 am and burial will follow in Wagener Cemetery.
