Betty is the loving wife of the late John Lewis Kozur. They were married for 64 years until his passing in 2021. She is the mother of John Charles Kozur and his wife Lee Hill, Robert “Bob” Stephen Kozur and his wife Wanda, Alicia Beth Kozur Caughman and her husband Ronnie, and the late Suzanne “Bootsie” Michelle Kozur. Betty is the Mommom of Jennifer Kozur and her fiancé Kevin Schroeder, Nicole Menchey and her husband Dan, Marshal Kozur and his wife Christina, Meghan Carson and her husband Kevin, Victoria Caughman Knight and her husband Cameron, Brady Kozur, and Billy Caughman (Lindsey Able). She is the great Mommom of Kayla Larrimore (Austin Miliner), Debra Menchey, Amelia Carson, Teddy Menchey, Nathan Carson, and Whitlee Elizabeth Knight. Betty is the step great grandmother of Kevin Schroeder, Jr., Daniel Menchey, Savannah Schroeder, Jasmine Wersten, Liam Wersten, and Jonathan Schroeder. Betty is the sister of Joan H. Economos and her husband the late Taki, Carol Williams and her husband Jim, the late Charles Smith and his wife the late Josephine, and the late Thomas Smith. She is the sister-in-law of the late Robert G. Kozur and his wife Kathleen. Betty has many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Betty was born in Chester, Pennsylvania to the late Helen Victoria Czyrny Smith and the late Henry Charles Smith on February 2, 1938. She was cared for by the loving family of Tony and Thelma Hamp in the late 40’s. Betty worked at Crozer Hospital in the 1950’s as a nurse’s aide until she married John in 1957. After getting married they settled on the Eastern Shore of Maryland where she was involved in numerous community organizations. Betty and John retired to South Carolina in 1990, where she continued to host her famous Christmas Eve drop-ins.

Betty was very creative and always had a smile on her face. Her soul was as kind as her heart. Betty loved everyone she met, especially children. Betty was more than just a name, Betty was “Ma Betty”, “Ms. Betty”, and “Mrs. Kozur”. She was a second mom and godmother to many. Betty took pride in being a guiding voice in their lives. She always found the good in everyone. Betty will always be remembered for her haunted house, killer eggnog, and numerous baked goods.

Mommom was a wonderful woman, she will be forever loved and missed. Our family is at peace knowing that she is in the arms of her husband and daughter again.

The Kozur family will honor Betty’s life with a private service.
