Betty was born in Chester, Pennsylvania to the late Helen Victoria Czyrny Smith and the late Henry Charles Smith on February 2, 1938. She was cared for by the loving family of Tony and Thelma Hamp in the late 40’s. Betty worked at Crozer Hospital in the 1950’s as a nurse’s aide until she married John in 1957. After getting married they settled on the Eastern Shore of Maryland where she was involved in numerous community organizations. Betty and John retired to South Carolina in 1990, where she continued to host her famous Christmas Eve drop-ins.
Betty was very creative and always had a smile on her face. Her soul was as kind as her heart. Betty loved everyone she met, especially children. Betty was more than just a name, Betty was “Ma Betty”, “Ms. Betty”, and “Mrs. Kozur”. She was a second mom and godmother to many. Betty took pride in being a guiding voice in their lives. She always found the good in everyone. Betty will always be remembered for her haunted house, killer eggnog, and numerous baked goods.
Mommom was a wonderful woman, she will be forever loved and missed. Our family is at peace knowing that she is in the arms of her husband and daughter again.
The Kozur family will honor Betty’s life with a private service.
