George Wooten

Mr. George W. “Catfish” Wooten, 80, entered into rest on Wednesday, February 19, 2025.

Left to cherish George’s memories are his daughter: Dee Taylor and her husband Larry of Aiken, son: Troy Wooten and his wife Ann of Perry, grandchildren: Eden Sliker and her husband Tommy of Salley, J.T. Wooten and his wife Taylor of Salley, Anna Moore and her husband Kitt of Hilda, and Jordan Mink of Aiken, great grandchildren: Sophia Sliker, Michael Sliker, and Henry Moore, sisters: Margie Bishop, Barbara Hartley and her husband Phillip, Hazel Duncan and her husband Owen, and Debbie Taylor, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

George was born in Aiken County on September 11, 1944, to the late Samuel “Sam” Legree Wooten and the late Ruth O. Toole Wooten.  

George, affectionately known as “Catfish”, never met a stranger. He worked for Graniteville Company as an electrician by day and a barber by night. After retiring from Graniteville Company, George happily opened Wooten’s Barbershop in Warrenville. His customers valued his profession and his friendship. Where else could you get a five dollar hair cut and come out with fifty dollars’ worth of information. George had a special bond with his dog, Sugar Babe. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and watching sports.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Berlin Baptist Church Children's Ministry, Double Pond Baptist Church Children's Ministry, Blackville, or Children's Place, Inc Child Development Center, Aiken. 

Visitation will be 11 am – 12 pm on Friday, February 21, 2025 at Bethcar Baptist Church. Funeral Service will be at 12 pm also in the church sanctuary. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Chris Addy will be officiating.
