Pelion – Mr. Gerald Wynn Shumpert, 76, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, February 6, 2024.
Left to cherish Gerald’s memory are his wife of 49 years, Wendy Crim Shumpert; son, Brian Shumpert and his wife Amanda; grandchildren, Anna Claire Shumpert and Cade Preston Shumpert; sisters, Melba Hutto and her husband Martin, and Dwain Smith and her husband Gene; sister-in-law, Lora Crim Stahl and her husband Wayne; and his nieces and nephews.
Gerald was born on September 8, 1947 to the late Hazel Lucretia “Crete” Fulmer Shumpert and the late John Elsie “J.E.” Shumpert. He is also predeceased by his sister-in-law Annette Moore.
Gerald is a veteran of the United States Army. He retired from the United States Postal Service after 33 years as a mail carrier for the Columbia area.
Gerald enjoyed watching Westerns, playing the guitar, and listening to music, especially Elvis. He was a loving husband, father, and granddaddy. Gerald’s love for his family was unmatched. He will forever be loved and missed.
The Shumpert family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to the Doctors and Staff of MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas for their excellent and compassionate care given to Gerald.
Graveside Service will be 3:30 pm on Friday, February 9, 2024 at King Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation will follow the service. The Shumpert family will receive friends and family at their home on Thursday.
