Grace "Jo" Josephine (Evans) Averitt

New Holland – Grace "Jo" Averitt, 91, entered into rest, on Friday, October 28, 2023.

Grace was born in Omega, Georgia to the late Jessie Byrd and Jake Evans.

Left to cherish her memory is her children, Cindy Ascolese and her husband Frank, Susie Averitt Hydrick and her husband the late George, Donnie Averitt and his wife Lisa, and granddaughter who was loved and raised as a daughter, Stephanie Lea Sheeks and her husband Jeff, additional grandchildren, Jeffery Averitt, Jake Averitt, Angie Averitt, Donna Averitt, Donald Averitt, Zach Averitt, Jordan Averitt, David Mello-Averitt, and Crystal Hydrick,; daughter-in-law, Susan Averitt; great grandchildren, Brenden Sheridan and his wife Jinsol, Jaden Sheeks and her significant other Bruce Tetsuya, Brittany Hydrick, and Brandon Hydrick; great great grandchildren, Hannah Sheridan, J.B. Sheeks, Kyomi Tetsuya, Nora Mello-Averitt. 

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, James Lynward Averitt; her sons, John Lamar Averitt and Jack Lee Averitt; grandson, Jason Averitt, her siblings; Ovida Evans, Hansel Evans, Rossel Evans, Edna Evans, Cassie Brown, and Mildred Evans.

Special thanks to Susie Hydrick for her compassionate and loving care for her mother Grace for the last 15 years.  

Memorials in honor of Grace may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1901 Brunswick Ave #100, Charlotte NC 28207.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 at the chapel of Blizzard Funeral Home.
