Ms. Hazel Brown Padgett, 88, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, September 18, 2023.
Ms. Hazel is the widow of Cleve Ashton “Sonny” Padgett, Jr. They had been married forty-three years at his passing in 1996. She is the mother of Cindy P. (Claude) Gantt, Rita P. (Marion) Rish, Jeff (Debbie) Padgett, Sr., and the late Rhett Padgett. Ms. Hazel is the grandmother of Amy (John) Smaltz, Jami (Lauren) Gantt, Daphnie (Ricky) Hallman, Lacey (Ty) Sightler, Dusty (Brooke) Rish, Jeffrey (Kasci) Padgett, Jr., Lakin (Adam Bedenbaugh) Padgett, and the late Kesli Payton Padgett. She is the great grandmother of Savannah Smaltz, Sydney Smaltz, Henry Ashton Gantt, Russ (McCella Martin) Allen, Daigan Hallman, Dusty “D. J.” Rish, Jr., Blake Wilder Rish, Cason Ashton Padgett, Layden Martin, Kyler Rhett Bedenbaugh, and Able Bedenbaugh. She is the great great grandmother of Briar Haze Allen. Ms. Hazel is the daughter of the late George Allen Brown, Sr. and the late Dora Elizabeth Rawls Brown. She is the sister of the late George Allen “Sam” (late Evelyn) Brown, Jr. and the late Bernard (late Joyce) Brown. Ms. Hazel’s nieces and nephews Allen (Kayla) Brown, Lisa Brown, and Roxann (Ricky) Hooker. She also has many other family members.
Ms. Hazel was a member of Convent Baptist Church. She loved her family. She enjoyed being around people and seeing them happy. Ms. Hazel owned Padgett’s Grocery and later Sonny’s Restaurant. She showed her love for others through her cooking and serving at her restaurant “Sonny’s”.
The family expresses their grateful appreciation to Willene Keadle and Helen Caudle for their loving care they provided to Ms. Hazel.
Visitation will be 2-3 pm Sunday, September 24, 2023. A Service Celebrating the life of Ms. Hazel will be follow at 3 pm in Convent Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Convent Baptist Church Cemetery. Pastor Travis Crumpton will be ministering to the family. Active Pallbearers will be John Smaltz, Jami Gantt, Ricky Hallman, Ty Sightler, Dusty Rish, Sr., Jeffrey Padgett, Jr., and Russ Allen. Honorary Pallbearers will be Rami Al-Emam and Don Rawls.
