Jane Wilson Obituary

Jane McCullough Wilson, 86, died on August 31, 2024 while living with Susan and Dennis Ramsey for the last 10 years in Gilbert, SC. She was born in Edmond, OK on October 2, 1937 to William and Lucy McCullough.  As a child she went to numerous grade schools. She had to stay out of school two different years due to asthma and possibly polio which lent to various chronic maladies that she never complained about. As a young girl watching Roy Rogers, she distinctly remembered learning and getting an inkling about Jesus through his show. She also received a New Testament in grade school that she treasured. Her Christian faith would sustain her throughout her life.

Jane’s high school years were spent in Phoenix, outside Seattle, Chicago, and Pittsburgh due to her father’s educational and career pursuits. Jane graduated from Penn High School in 1955. She attended Arizona State University, graduating with a degree in Childhood Education. She mentioned, for dramatic effect, that she took a fencing class. And among her possessions was found a Resident Advisor’s trophy award for “Outstanding Service to Dorm McClintock B Hall”.

During her college years she met her future husband James V. Wilson. They would eventually settle in Colorado where they raised their family. She enjoyed the blessing of deep and lasting friendship through their neighbors, work and churches attended in Greeley and Longmont and later during her time in Gilbert, SC. Along with a short stint teaching and being a paraprofessional, she regularly journaled, was published in Guidepost and became a certified Biblical lay counselor and co-led Bible studies and Stephen’s Ministry with her husband during their Greeley years.

Jane was exceptionally devoted in care to her family which started early with teaching her sister Sue how to read and as a “fierce” protector of her younger brother Michael. Her intentionality to her husband and children and grandchildren was expressed through her cooking, baking (especially her pies), and love for nature; she delighted in painting, embroidery, recording children’s books on cassette, birdwatching, flower gardening, and camping.  She had a passion for traveling, reading, pursuing theological understandings, and sharing her faith in God which later was limited to but faithfully continued through calls and texts and cards. She will be missed by those who enjoyed her wit (even more so in her last days), who found her words encouraging, her spirit resilient, and her deep conversations satisfying. She wanted to be remembered for her love of The Three in One Trinity: Abba Father, Jesus friend to sinners, and the ever-present Holy Spirit.

Jane was preceded in death by her husband James V. Wilson and brother Derek McCullough. She is survived by her children; Jeffrey (Heidi) Wilson, Susan (Dennis) Ramsey, Peter (Marsha) Wilson, and Jonathan (Tamar) Wilson, siblings: Sue Bishop and Michael (Jill) McCullough and Andrea McCullough (Darryl), Grandchildren; Ashley Korner (Greg), Brittany Ramsey (John), Seth Wilson (Viktoria), Hannah Dudt (Jacob), Rebekah Swanson (Daniel), Joe Wilson (Olivia), Isaak and Greyson Wilson and 8 great grandchildren and many beloved nephews and nieces.
