Neeses – Mr. Jerry Mitchell “Ragman” Hoover, 69, entered into rest Monday, August 12, 2024.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 49 years, Frances Baughman Hoover, daughters; Michelle (Bradley Williams) Hoover and Andi (Geoff) Rawls, grandchildren; Gabrielle (Kyle Weeks) Hoover, LeAnn Rawls, and Dylan Rawls, great grandchildren; Jack Mitchell Weeks and Lily Ann Weeks, siblings; Barbara (late Wayne) Davis, and Owen ‘Hoss” (Pat) Hoover, and bonus daughters; Shelli Stabler and Josie Williamson.
He is preceded in death by his parents Clifford “Cliff” Benjamin Hoover and Jeanette Hutto Hoover; and his siblings; Ray (Terri) Hoover, Doris (late Jerry) Chavis, and Danny (late Karen) Hoover.
Jerry was a “Jack of all Trades”. He worked for Clarendon Farms of Beaufort for more than 20 years. Jerry and Frances lived in the Beaufort area for 20 years and considered Beaufort home. Jerry didn’t miss many nights of shrimping during the shrimp season and enjoyed fishing any other time. Jerry loved all of his family. He was a simple man who loved to camp, cook, sit outdoors, and have a good time. Jerry never met a stranger and was affectionately known as “Ragman” or “Rag”. Many of the friends and family congregated around the fire barrel (no matter the temperature). If Jerry could leave one last message to his family, it would be that you can’t live life alone and to love one another.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
The Hoover family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to Amedysis Hospice, MUSC, Orangeburg Step Down Unit and 4 West for the care and love shown to Jerry and their family.
Visitation will be 2 – 3 p.m. on Thursday, August 15, 2024 at Mt. Beulah Pentecostal Holiness Church. A Service Celebrating Jerry’s life will follow at 3 p.m. with burial in the church cemetery.
