Jewel “Bubba” Harold Sturkie, 69, entered into rest on Wednesday, January 31, 2024.
Left to cherish Bubba’s memories are his children, Mary Sue (James) Peele, and Jewell DeLaine (Kenny) Buff; grandchildren, Lorene (Brandon Little) Peele, Leila Rankin, James “Bud” (Jessica) Peele, Jr., Danni (Morgan) Still, Tyler (Melissa) Hill, Madison Bryant, and Katie Ann Roberts; great grandchildren, Connley Peele, Khloe Stroud, Allison Stroud, Emberleigh Little, Nora Rankin, Lilly Rankin, and Waylon Still; brothers, Mickel “Mike” (Shirley) Sturkie, Sr, and Timothy “Timmy” (Brenda) Sturkie, Sr; sister, Connie (Gene) Elrod; in-laws, Fayez Fares, Mark (Camilla) Chavis, and Deirdre Chavis; special friends, Mitch Hook, Sam Shumpert, John Williams, Brett “The Shrimp Man” Price, and Mr. Brown; and his furry companions, ReRe, Nubs, and Marlee.
Bubba is predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Wanda Sue Chavis Sturkie; daughter, Michelle Lee Sturkie; parents, Betty Earline Pilot Harmon and Jewel Harold Sturkie, Sr.; his sister, Betty Ann Fares; and his in-laws, Jimmy Chavis, Russell Chavis, and Donna Lynn Chavis.
Bubba was the owner and operator of Steam Mill Custom Duck Calls. He was well known by many for his custom calls. Bubba was affectionately known as “Papa” by his grandchildren. Bubba was an avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting and fishing. He was known as a fishing legend on Santee.
Visitation will be 1 to 2 pm on Monday, February 5, 2024 at the chapel of Blizzard Funeral Home. Funeral Service will follow at 2 pm also at the chapel. Burial will be at Steam Mill Bottom Family Cemetery.
