Joanne Mary Wetherley Lovett, mother, sister, daughter, and best friend, entered into rest, Sunday, November 30, 2025.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Allison Widener, son-in-law Shawn Pierce, and sister Diane Lee. Born September 4th, 1953, adopted by the late George and Doris Wetherley. She is also preceded in death by her brother, Dennis Wetherley.
A life full of ups and downs. Like most people, she lived a fairly interesting life. Moved a lot, learned how to work in restaurants, and home economics, a great cook. Overall, she learned to be a great friend. To some she was there when they needed them in the worst, best, or just listened to them. Others she kept secrets that most wouldn't even dream of sharing. Whether you wanted her or not, she was there in your corner. She would be the first to speak up even if she was the one to get in trouble over it. Sister to two siblings; brother and sister. Many other ‘adopted’ siblings that were very close family friends.
She was married twice. However, second marriage is where her life truly changed when she met Lester Widener. Some say the rest is history. Later in life she started having an understanding more on being a believer. I know she's at peace with him and that makes this even possible bearable.
I was taught by her that life can be a full range of emotions, challenges, last but not least those that throw stones aren't always flawless themselves. Her life was full of those challenges. She was adopted twice, married twice, learned how to start life over several times. She learned to not give up to a point. Which we all do in a way. I am so glad to have had her as a mother, she taught and raised me in the best ways, she knew how to make sure I had what I needed as well how to cook. Her meatloaf was one for the ages. She was also my best friend. Yes, I may have had to make the decisions for her health for the last number of years, but I did what I knew was best to give her a chance. Like any child, I loved both my parents. Losing one at an early age I grew up differently and faster than some, but I got to have the other even longer and grew closer and got to learn life rather than falling soft.
My mother was no saint, who truly is. She truly is/was/always be my mother and for that I give all the glory to God for choosing her as one half of my heart. My parents are together again, making my Dad his meals again and making sure 5 o’clock dinner is on the table, until then save me some.
One of her favorite songs;
Amazing grace, how sweet the sound. That saved a wretch, like me! I once was lost, but now am found, was blind but now I see.
Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, and grace my fears relieved. How precious did that grace appear. The hour I first believed!
A Celebration of Life Dinner will be January 2, 2026 at 3:00 pm for close friends and family at Sprindale Baptist Church.
