Joey James Miller, 63, entered into rest on Wednesday, July 1, 2026.

Left to cherish Joey’s memories are his wife of 5 years and the love of his life, Dana Jean Austin Miller. Joey had no children of his own but helped raise many. He loved his wife’s children as his own: Kaelyn (Daniel) Warden, Ashley Tharp (Thomas), and Courtney Tharp (Anna). He is also survived by his mother, Beatrice Baughman Cooper, siblings and in-laws: Renee (Jim) Olenick, Ledosta (Tony) Bell, Doug (Wanda) Austin, Dianne (Jim) Stroman, Don (Gina) Austin, mother-in-law, Betty Austin, nieces and nephews: Aaron (Kerri) Berry, Kirstie (Sarah) Berry, Austin (Craig) Bell, Shelli (Trae) Stabler, Josie (Austin) Williamson, and great nieces and nephews: Khloe Berry, Kasen Berry, Brantley Berry, Will Sikes, Hollis Sikes, Collin Stabler, Cruz Stabler, and Christian “Jus” Stabler.

Joey was born on August 25, 1962, to Beatrice Baughman Cooper and the late James Edward Miller. He is also preceded in death by his stepfather, Bobby Cooper, and his Grandma Annie Miller, who Joey helped take care of her until her passing.

Joey was an animal lover, he and his wife enjoyed tending to their many farm pets including dogs, cats, chickens, ducks, turkeys, squirrels, guineas, donkeys, emu, and horses. He was affectionately known as “Papa Joey” by his animals and family. Joey also enjoyed fishing, he and Dana spent many hours catching fish. His biggest passion was food; eating, cooking, and sharing meals with those he loved. Food was Joey’s love language that brought friends and family together. A family man, he devoted his life to putting their needs above his own. He shared an unbreakable bond with his mother, who he talked to every day. Joey was a long-time employee at “Giant Food World” – Piggly Wiggly in Neeses, where he worked his way up from bagger to manager. After working in retail, Joey worked for the town of Neeses as their maintenance man. He was a hard worker who put his all into everything that he did, he was a hometown hero. A people person, Joey always greeted you with a warm smile. His kind heart and gentle spirit will leave an imprint on his family and friends for a lifetime.
