Joseph "Joey" Richard Heyward

Prosperity – Joseph Richard “Joey” Heyward, 72, went home to be with the Lord early Wednesday morning May 17, 2023. Joey fought a courageous fight with Leukemia.

Joey is the loving husband of Vickie Heyward. They have been married and shared the enjoyment of life for fifty-one years. He is the father “Daddy” of Heather Hammett and her husband Jason, and Joseph R. “Jody” Heyward, Jr. and his wife Priscilla. Joey is the Pop of Jackson Hammett, Mallory Hammett, and Jolie Belle Heyward. He is the son of the late Chester Willie Heyward and the late Ann Lee Tullis Heyward. Joey is the brother and brother-in-law of late Johnny Overstreet and his wife the late Marian, the late Peggy Mayes and her husband Tommy, the late Mickey Heyward and his wife Pealey, Larry Kitchings and his wife Gay, and Robert Kitchings and his wife Shirley. Joey’s last living aunt is Joyce Heyward Keeney. He has many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who were special to him.

Joey was a graduate of Wagener-Salley High School. He was a veteran of the U. S Army. Joey was a member of Rocky Springs Baptist Church. Joey spent over fifty years in all aspects of the construction industry completing many large and complex projects throughout the southeast.  He loved spending time on Lake Murray with his wife and friends to include fishing and having friends over for cook outs. Joey and Vickie enjoyed shagging with their shag family at different events. Best of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Monday, May 22, 2023 from 4 pm to 6 pm in the chapel of Blizzard Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Wagener SC. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 6 pm.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers that memorials in honor of Joey be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105.
