Lona Poole Driggers, entered into rest on October 20, 2021.
Lona was born on February 1, 1931 in Salley, SC, and lived most of her life in Wagener, SC. She had been living near family in Anderson, SC since May 2018.
Lona was a long-time member of Wagener United Methodist Church where she was Secretary on the Administrative Board for over 30 years. She made her career as a supervisor at Wagener and Salley Manufacturing Companies. Lona cherished spending time with her family, her loving hands preparing a feast of everyone’s favorites. Lona had a sweet tooth (especially for Hershey’s Kisses) and was well known for her baking skills, particularly her sought after pound cake. Her hugs were legendary and will be missed by all.
Lona is survived by her two daughters Regina Spires of Greenville, SC and Jackie Corbett (Howard) of Anderson, SC; her grandchildren: Christie Corbett of Atlanta, GA, Jennifer Marsengill (Lamar) of Walhalla, SC and Michael Spires (Heidi) of Greenville, SC; and her great-grandchildren: Drew Garrison and Logan and Cody Marsengill of Walhalla, SC, and Bowen Spires of Greenville, SC. Lona had five brothers, three of which preceded her in death (Tony, Kayo and Christopher Poole) and two brothers who are still living (David and Carlyle Poole of Wagener, SC). She also has a loving relationship with three sisters-in-law, Sandra and Hazel Poole and Barbara Edwards. Lona is preceded in death by her parents Christabell and Arthur Poole. The resounding message from all of her nieces, nephews, church family, friends and caregivers, “She’s just the sweetest lady…One of kind.”
Graveside with visitation following will be held at 2pm on Sunday, October 24th at Salley Oakview Cemetery located at 3071 Salley Road, Salley, SC.
