Mrs. Margaret “Marge” Louise Ellis Bonds, 90, went to be with her Lord on Friday, April 10, 2020.
Mrs. Marge was born in Charleston, SC to the late Vernon Augustus Ellis and the late Sarah Louise Myers Ellis. She was married to the late Rev. Hollis Edward Bonds until his death in 2009. She is survived by her six children: Chaplain David Hollis Bonds (Linda), Mark Ellis Bonds (Keesha), Paul Clifford “Buzz” Bonds (Tammy), Deborah “Debbie” Bonds Myers (Danny), Elizabeth “Beth” Bonds Mayer, and Kimberly “Kim” Bonds Goodyear (Tony). She was preceded in death by a sister, Lillian Ellis Blitch, an infant son, Larry Lea Bonds, her grandson Christopher Hollis Bonds and her dear daughter-in-law Nancy Hann Bonds (David.)
She is survived by 17 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and one precious little great-great-grand.
Mrs. Marge graduated from St. Andrews High School and Trevecca College. Her long and productive professional life included jobs as CFO of a Swiss-based medical device company; Business Manager of a large commercial paint contracting company; Financial Secretary to two large churches, and Business Manager for Cooper’s Creek Golf Club, where she worked through the age of 83 years. She also had a wonderful singing voice and a love for music, serving as Choir Director for several of her husband’s churches. Although a life-long Baptist, Mrs. Marge was also a supporter of the Messianic Jewish church and was an accomplished teacher of the Old Testament. She was also a proud fan of the Houston Astros, South Carolina Gamecocks, numerous golf professionals, and Nascar's Jeff Gordon.
Mrs. Margaret was a woman of grace and deep faith who set a powerful example for her family and friends. She was active in her churches (Port Royal Baptist, Convent Baptist and First Baptist Lexington) and was a Founding Member and finance director of God’s Special Forces/Silver Pilgrim Christian Ministries, a 501c3 Christian ministry serving the homeless and the needy. She was particularly devoted to her work at Walters Retirement Home. She requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to support this ongoing call from God. Due to the current health crisis, there will be no viewing and the services will be private. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
