Marvin "PeeWee" Rushton Obituary

Pelion - Marvin Ray “PeeWee” Rushton, 58, entered into rest Friday, September 6, 2024.

PeeWee is the widow of Cathy Sue Smith Rushton, they were married for 37 years until her passing in January. He is the son of the late Marvin Calvin Rushton and the late Linda Kay Sharpe Rushton. He is the brother of Paula Dowd and her husband Henry, John Rushton and his wife Christian, and Mike and Debbie Rodriguez.

PeeWee is the son-in-law of Janie Ruth Waters Smith and Elvin Jerome “Jerry” Smith, Sr.

He is the brother-in-law of Elvin Jerome Smith, Jr., Mark Christopher Smith, and Melvin Eugene Corder and his wife Rachel.

He is the uncle of John Dowd and his girlfriend Madison Floyd, Calvin Dowd and his fiancée Haleigh Morris, James Dowd, Caroline Hall and her husband Troy, Chloe Kreider, Brittani Salley and her husband Nick, Jada Van Sickle, Jax Salley, Charli-Kate Salley, Rico Rodriguez and his wife Rachel, Kaiya Rodriguez, Caius Rodriguez, Jeremy Smith, Latonya Corder, Jennifer Corder, Candy Corder, Sabrina Ann Corder, Brianna Ruth Corder, the late Mandy Sue Corder, and many loyal friends and extended family members.

Growing up PeeWee was a fun-loving kid and protective big brother to Paula and John. He loved playing with his siblings’ riding bikes, with toy cars, and their favorite game of Cowboy’s and Indian’s. PeeWee graduated from Pelion High School in 1984 and was married to his wife Cathy in 1986. Never venturing far from his hometown, PeeWee began his career framing homes which he enjoyed and grew passionate about. This passion soon led to owning a company, P&P Construction. PeeWee was keen on hunting and time fishing, watching NASCAR and Clemson Tiger Football, but found comfort and piece in time spent with his wife Cathy and dog Sweet Pea. PeeWee was a private and quiet person but also a beacon of kindness and love. He was strong willed and stubborn at times but had an enormous heart and wonderful sense of humor. PeeWee never had children of his own but raised his brother after the passing of their father. His family was his entire world especially after the loss of his wife. Being known as “Uncle” to Jada, Jax, and Charli-Kate and a father figure to his brother meant everything to him and it was evident his family gave him strength, love, and his greatest joys. PeeWee’s spiritual journey was fraught, and therefore hard-won. As a young person, he made a profession of Christian faith, then later parted ways with organized religion but never left behind the teachings. In his final years, he deeply contemplated his faith and came full circle in his beliefs and recommitted himself to Christ. PeeWee lived his life the best he knew and left this earth with dignity, strength, and full of love for those who went before him. While our hearts mourn the loss, we take comfort in knowing he is no longer suffering in pain but with the love of his life.
