Mary Terry Lybrand

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Terry Lybrand, 90, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.

Left to cherish Mary’s memories are her loving husband of 66 years, Bobby Gene Lybrand; her daughters, Karen Elizabeth Lybrand Dey and her husband Michael, and Katherine Elaine Lybrand; grandchildren, Patrick Michael Dey and his wife Sélah, and Stacey Elizabeth Dey; great grandchildren, Enoch Dey, Ambrose Dey, and Merriweather Dey; sister, Patricia “Pat” Davie; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Mary was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on January 22, 1935, to the late Marvin Randall Terry and the late Blanche Irene Williams Terry. She is also preceded in death by her siblings: Katherine “Kay” Young, Charles Terry, Jim Terry, Randall Terry, Edward “Eddy” Terry, Kenneth Terry, and Allen “Butch” Terry.

Mary’s life is highlighted by travel and adventure, her love for her husband and family, entertaining and gardening at her dream home on Edisto Lake near Wagener, her career in banking, her relationship with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and service to her church, Wagener United Methodist Church.

The source of Mary’s love for her family can be found in her large family with eight brothers and sisters.  Mary and Bobby often hosted large family gatherings at their home.  And Mary and her family trace their heritage to the Cherokee Indian Nation, which brought her grandparents to Oklahoma with the “Trail of Tears.” 

Mary’s love of travel started when she met Bobby.  She had traveled to Wagener from her home in Tulsa to visit her sister, Kay, who had moved there after her marriage.  That first trip led to many more trips because Bobby served in the United States Air Force.  His career, and their adventures together, took them to live for four years in Germany.  They traveled throughout Europe during their posting at Sembach Air Force Base.

After Mr. Bobby retired from the U.S. Air Force, the family settled in Wagener, Bobby’s hometown.  They opened two small businesses and Mary started her banking career at Banker’s Trust, now Security Federal Bank.  She started as a teller and rose to Branch Manager and Assistant Vice President when she retired 24 years later in 1996.

After Mary and Bobby retired, they traveled extensively, visiting all 50 states and many national parks, and taking many cruises together including a memorable cruise through the Panama Canal.  They also cruised the Baltic Sea, visiting Russia among other countries, and the Mediterranean Sea.

Mary heaped her love on her family, but she reserved a special place in her heart for her husband, Bobby, her daughters, Karen and Kathy, and her grandchildren, Patrick and Stacey.  But in recent years, what always brought a smile to her face was a visit from her great grandchildren, Enoch, Ambrose, and Merry.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials in Mary’s honor be made to Wagener United Methodist Church, PO Box 265. Wagener, SC 29164.

Funeral Service will be January 28, 2026, 11 a.m., at Wagener United Methodist Church. The Lybrand family will receive friends immediately following the service. Mary’s life will be honored with a private burial at Wagener Cemetery.
