Mary Pilon Obituary

Mary Pilon Artist - February 24, 1951 - September 2, 2020
Mary was a freelance artist known in the Roaring Fork Valley to Aspen. Mary left long-lasting evidence that she lived and loved Western Colorado.  She painted two murals for the valley, which were both a labor of love. One of the murals is located at Centennial Park in Glenwood Springs and the other in New Castle at the New Castle Community Center. The New Castle mural gives the passerby the illusion that it is moving with you. She felt such a genuine rapture for the mountains, valleys, rivers, forests, and landscapes as well as the animal and birdlife in the area.
She remained in demand for her prestigious interior and exterior faux finishing and interior murals. Mary worked professionally in the Roaring Fork Valley since the 1980s and her works were chosen by the Glenwood Springs Chamber Resort Association for its annual greeting cards.  She is best known for her renditions of Mt. Sopris, which are in many of her art collections. Not a day would go by without Mary noticing that there were so many small miracles to behold.  She cared greatly for the people she met and worked with, she thrived in the 4 seasons as each art project was painted in a summer and winter scene.  She loved and was proud of her home in the valley and her too many pups!  Mary was feisty, strong, independent, and she had a true zest for life.  She had a sweetness, a generous, and talented spirit.  Mary made everything around her beautiful, her murals, faux art, paintings, and managing her flower beds at home.
Mary is the daughter of the late Viateur Jack Pilon and the late Marion McLaurin Pilon. She is the sister of Betty Nolte, Juanita Fontana and her husband Joseph, Pamela Archer, Viateur Gerard “Jerry” Pilon and his wife Mary Louise, John Pilon and his wife Sharon, and Bernadette Pilon. She was blessed with many nieces and nephews.  Ms. Mary loved her dogs: Benjamin “Ben”, Brindi, Nelson, Princeton, Katie, Abby, and Tesla. All of them remained lovingly beside her when she passed away. In addition to her parents, she was proceeded in death by her niece Rachel Joy Fontana.
