Mrs. Mary Catherine Spires was at home being cared for by her loving daughter when she went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, June 7, 2026.
Left to cherish Mrs. Mary Catherine’s memory and legacy are her daughter; Carolyn Spires Bocock, her granddaughter; Jeri Jeffcoat, Jeri’s husband Joe, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. The Ernest Shumpert family has always considered Mrs. Mary Catherine as their sister. In addition, she was always very close to her Crim step-siblings and the Bocock family. Mrs. Mary Catherine was fond of her beloved pets SoZo, Ellie and the late Trier and Copper.
Mrs. Mary Catherine was born August 2, 1930 on the home place where she lived her entire life. Her parents were the late Lola May Shumpert Jacobs and Robert Jacobs. She was married to the late Clyde J. Spires for 68, years at his passing in 2014. Mrs. Mary Catherine was a life-long member of King Grove Baptist Church where in her younger years she taught Sunday School, led the youth group along with her husband, and was church secretary. She was a charter member of Chapter 225 of the Order of the Eastern Star. All her life was spent helping her family on the farm. They grew cotton, rice, wheat, soybeans, corn, chickens, and many breeds of cattle. She loved fishing, and traveling. She especially enjoyed the mountains and collecting rocks. She has rocks from many of her travels throughout the US Southwest, Latin and South America, Canada, and Europe.
