Mr. James Byron “Pete” Bodie, 76, went home to be with Jesus on Friday, September 26, 2025. Born on September 5, 1949, Pete lived a life full of grit, stubbornness, and love -- especially for his wife, his family, and just about anything with an engine.
Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife, Kay Wingard Bodie of 34 years; son, Michael James Bodie and his wife Nicole; daughter, Kimberley Anderson and her husband Josef; grandchildren Kalie Hedden and her husband Jacob, Kendal Bodie, Kinsley Bodie, Peyton Anderson, Palmer Anderson, and Malakai Anderson; great-grandchildren Dawson Hedden, Dax Hedden, Demi Hedden, and Tyler Ryan Bodie; brother Thomas Luther Bodie and his wife Sylvia; beloved niece Jessica Baugus and her sons Shane and Blake; and adopted-in-love brother Bryan Satcher. He is also survived by his loyal four-legged companions, Molly and Pugzy. Pete was preceded in death by his parents Byron and Edith Grace Lott Bodie and his brother George Eargle.
Pete was a man of many titles – son, brother, husband, father, “Grandpa Bodie,” “PeePaw,” collector, builder, Mason, and faithful member of Bethcar Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and on the building committee. If something needed to be fixed or built, Pete could do it with his hands (although sometimes with a few colorful words thrown in for good measure). He was also an avid collector of anything he thought “might bring a dollar,” from cars to odds and ends that only he saw the value in.
Pete was a man who used his hands to teach and to love. He passed down lessons of hard work, craftsmanship, and pride in a job well done. Colossians 3:23 says, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.”Pete lived that truth every time he cut the grass, hammered a nail, or built something from the ground up.
Visitation will be held from 2–3 p.m. on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at Bethcar Baptist Church. Funeral Service will follow at 3 p.m. in the sanctuary, with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Chris Addy will be ministering to the family.
