Robert "Papa Robert" Collins Smith

Salley- Mr. Robert Collins Smith, loving known as Papa Robert by his family, 86, went on to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 28, 2019.

Mr. Robert was the loving and devoted husband for 61 years to the late Lena Mae “Grannie Mae” Chavis Smith. He is the loving father of Randy Smith and his wife Colleen, Michael “Champ” Smith and his wife Elana, Cheryl Hutson and her husband Jerry, Cindy Love and her husband the late Donnie and the late Robbie Dean Smith. Papa Robert grandfather of Sylvia Jones, Paul Smith and his wife Linda, Karl Smith and his wife Angela, Chuck Smith and his wife Candi, Clay Smith and his wife Rosey, Sarah Kirkland and her husband Austin, Seba Williamson, Jeremy Hutson and his wife Lizzie, Kayla Hutson, Lee Love and his wife Michelle, and Donna Faye Love. He is the great grandfather of Kathryn Jones, Patrick Jones, Addy Neely, Collin Smith, Ryanne Smith, David Smith, McCoy Smith, Gabe Smith, Eli Smith, Channing Smith, Calee Smith, Cullen Smith, Blake Kirkland, Miles Kirkland, Chris Hutson, Kevin Lahnert, Austin Lahnert, Lucas Lahnert, Zachary Lahnert, Willow Lahnert, Olivia Love and Aubree Love. Papa Robert is the great-great grandfather of Alexander Jones.  He is the brother of Peggy Yon, Shirley Poole, Yvonne Cantu, the late Deletha Lucas, and Anna Laura Geddings. Papa Robert was born in Pelion to the late Lester Collins Smith and Lapell Bodie Smith.                                                  

Mr. Robert served in the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the VFW Post 6304. Mr. Robert worked at Savannah River Site for 20 years. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting. He will be missed and loved by his family.

Visitation will be held from 5 pm to 7 pm on Sunday at the chapel of Blizzard Funeral Home and Cremation Services. A Service Celebrating the Life of Mr. Robert will be 10 am on Monday at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 358 East Pine Log Rd. Aiken, SC, 29803. Burial will follow at Berlin Baptist Church Cemetery.
