Sylvia Baker Obituary

Sylvia H. Baker, 77, entered into eternal peace on Thursday, April 13th, 2023 at her Wagener home with her loving family and friends by her side.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband, Barrie Ray Baker and her parents Addie Bell Mosley and Francis Drake Hall.

Fearfully and wonderfully made, Sylvia was born October 15, 1945 in Aiken, South Carolina. After graduating high school, she married her soulmate, devoted husband, and father of their children, Barrie Ray Baker of 56 years. She worked at Bradley Plumbing and Heating in Aiken, South Carolina for 26 years where she displayed a wonderful knack for bookkeeping and problem solving. She then went on to open her own business, her “Heart and Soul” Baker’s Little River Landing at Lake Murray in Saluda, South Carolina from 1989-1997. Sylvia was a fiery, strong spirited soul who empowered others through her kindness and truly lived life to the fullest with the simplest pleasures, she always knew how to enter a room and make everyone smile and laugh. She never met a stranger, always greeting everyone with loving and open arms. She loved chatting it up with friends and family, snacking and spending her time outdoors and traveling. Her favorite pastime was fishing with her husband from sunup to sundown. Sylvia was a seafood fanatic and never passed up on a last-minute vacation. She was a member of Rocky Grove Baptist Church of Salley South Carolina. Sylvia was devoted to her church family and loved taking charge of childrens’ crafts on Wednesday nights.

Sylvia is survived by her two loving daughters, Melanie (Duane) Heyward, of Aiken and Daphne (Billy) Knight of Wagener. Four Grandchildren, Jessica (Carlos) Jackson Brizuela, of Aiken, Jennifer Moore, of Aiken, Christopher (Savannah Hall) Werts, of Wagener, Lindsey Heyward, of Aiken, and Bonus granddaughter Madison McFarland, of Wagener. Five Great grandchildren; Sadie Kennedy, Colton Thomas, Madalynn Werts, Savannah Thomas, Viviana Brizuela, and Bonus Great-Grandson Eli Williams. Sylvia had 5 sisters, and 1 brother. She is survived by two sisters; Dale Winkler of Aiken, South Carolina, and Elaine (Dean) Boatwright of Aiken, South Carolina. Sylvia is survived by her only beloved sister-in-law; Sheryl Baker Kitchings of Elko, South Carolina. She is preceded by her brother, Kenneth Hall, and her sisters, Marjorie Anderson, Blondell Fulmer, and June Young.

In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Rocky Grove Baptist Church or to the family of Sylvia H. Baker.

We ask that you take a moment to hug your child, grandchild, friend, or just take that one day off from work to be with the ones you love. Time waits for no one.

Visitation will be 2:00 to 3:00 pm Sunday, April 16, 2023 at Rocky Grove Baptist Church. Memorial service will follow at 3:00 pm also in the church sanctuary.
