Wanda Ruth Hutchinson Ammons, 72, departed this earthly life and went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Thursday, May 1, 2025.
Wanda was born on April 21, 1953 to the late Charles Hutchinson and the late Lois Williams Hutchinson, of Lake City. She is also preceded in death by her husband of 10 years, Douglas “Doug” Ammons and her brother Johnny Edward Hutchinson.
Left to cherish Wanda’s memories are her cousin Brenda Hartley Sturkie and her husband Ronald. Wanda and Brenda had a sister like bond that reflected their love for each other. They journeyed through all of life’s ups and downs just as true sisters would. Through their relationship Wanda became a part of the Hartley Family where she was dearly loved and loved them as much in return. She also is survived by her cousin Dawn Coker Helms of Lake City, and many other cousins, nieces, and nephews from Lake City.
For over 20 years, Wanda served as Salley Baptist Church’s dedicated pianist, using her gift not simply as a talent, but as a ministry. Wanda’s music touched the hearts of all who heard it. She believed wholeheartedly that her ability to play was a gift from Jesus, and she used it to glorify Him in every note. Her presence at the piano was a constant source of comfort, inspiration, and spiritual encouragement to the congregation and the community.
In recognition of her extraordinary gift, Wanda was honored with the privilege of playing at the South Carolina Governor’s Mansion, participating in numerous functions and ceremonies over the years.
Wanda's life was marked by kindness, humility, and an unwavering devotion to her faith, family, church, and community. She will be remembered not only for the beauty of her music but for the beauty of her spirit. She severed her community in many capacities including serving as a Council Member for the Town of Neeses.
She leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, and song that will continue to echo in the hearts of all who knew her.
Visitation will be 1-2:30 pm on Tuesday, May 6, 2025 at Salley Baptist Church in the fellowship hall. Funeral Service will be at 2:30 pm in the church sanctuary. Burial will follow at Mt. Beulah Pentecostal Holiness Church, where Wanda will be laid to rest beside her husband, Doug.
