Mr. Wendell Carl Black, 84, entered into rest on Sunday, April 14, 2024.
Wendell was married to the late Muriel Jeffcoat Black for 34 years until her passing in 2022. He is survived by his children, Monica Taylor and her husband Travis, Donna Hoover and her husband Ricky, and Terri Collins and her husband Mike, grandchildren; Dillon Taylor and Kyle Hoover; great grandchildren; Charleston Taylor and Kael Hoover. He is also survived by his in-laws; Peggy J. Dillon, Linda J. Whitesides and her husband Jerry, John W. Jeffcoat, Jr. and his wife Cindy; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his four-leg friend “good dog Shep”.
Wendell was born March 26, 1940 to the late Birdie Mae Fallaw Black and the late Erstin Enoch Black. He is also preceded in death by his son, Ron Black; and siblings, Naomi “Butch” McCoy, Homer Black, Floy Black, and Larry Fallaw.
Wendell was affectionately known as “Pop” by his grandchildren. He was an avid football fan and would spend his weekends watching games. He enjoyed the outdoors. Some of his favorite things were gardening, watching the birds, and sitting outside at his shop.
Wendell’s family would like to express their deepest appreciation to Bell’s Caregivers, Becky Sharpe, and Empyrean Hospice for the care given to him.
Visitation will be 2 – 3 pm on Friday, April 19, 2024 at the chapel of Blizzard Funeral Home. Celebration of Life Service will follow at 3 pm.
