Dear Gwend and Children,
God bless you all. I am deeply saddened to hear of Mr. Carey's passing. He is -- not was --one of the most influential people in my life to date. I hope you all remember us from Waynesboro where he coached us in life even moreso than football. One of the most positive and unflappable people I've met, Lyndon was another dad to us all.
I spoke to Chip Barefield, Lawton Tinley and others who, like me, could not make the services; they, too, feel as though a part of us is missing.
He will never be forgotten. His influence on us and our families cannot be measured. I am proud to have called him my friend and, always, 'Mr. Carey', for he was much more respected than just 'Coach Carey'. Peace to you all. Roland.

Fondly remembering the young teacher, Lyndon Carey, who in his twenties at Waynesboro (Ga) Junior High, treated me (a quiet little unassuming girl in his class) with kindness and respect. I appreciated his wonderful sense of humor, his relaxed yet thorough covering of classroom material, and his emphasis on doing the "right things". I am grateful Lyndon Carey was in my life and I express my condolences to his loved ones.

Fond memories of Coach Carey in Waynesboro as one of his students. My brother Sonny and I became educators also. For 34 years as an Industrial Arts Teacher we used some of the examples we learned as students! One of the lessons I learned was to laugh with the students not at them.

Mrs Carey
I am so pleased that he and I got to talk by phone recently. I got to tell him how much he meant to me. 50 years ago he took his Saturday and put me in his car and drove me to Wofford where I received a football scholarship. It changed my life. All my successes are the result of his desire to help a little kid from Waynesboro. He gave of his time freely and when I praised him and asked how I could help him in any way, he just humbly deflected my comments. Mr.Carey was Great and good man. I wish I could call and tell how much he meant to me just one more time.

Mr. Johnson,
I was there the night you called dad. After he accidentally hung up on you and you called back he put you on speaker so that he could hear better. What you said to him was so sincere my heart filled with pride. I was so young when we were in Waynesboro those years were brief memories. I followed in his footsteps and went into teaching (not coaching though) because I saw the impact he had on others as I grew up. I've heard many Lyndon Carey stories over the years, some weren't too good. You can't please everyone. Since his death we have had so many condolences from people from Waynesboro. These I treasure because these are the ones from people's lives he effected over 40 years ago. Thank you for your call to him that night. You have no idea how much that meant to him even though he might not have said it, it did. I still remember your words now and it makes me cry, not so much in sadness, but that his life made such an impact on others. Thank you!

Dear Mrs. Gwen, Mike & Jackie, Mark & Patricia, Mel & Ronnie, and Family,
Our hearts break for all of you, but at the same time, we rejoice and celebrate the live of a man who lived life to the fullest and in doing so, positively influenced the lives of so many others who were fortunate enough to know him. During the course of our lives, we have many role models. Some of those role models we never forget because of the impact that they had on the way that we live our own lives, both physically, emotionally and spiritually. Mr. Lyndon was one of those role models for us. We count ourselves extremely fortunate that we had the opportunity to worship with him for many years at his beloved Wagener United Methodist Church. Not only did he teach us to be strong in our faith in God through the many Sunday School classes he taught, the words that he often offered during Sunday worship, the many committees he chaired and served on, but he also taught us how to love and be loved, how to laugh and be happy, and most of all to not ever lose your connection with our God and His Son, Jesus Christ in all that we do. He taught us how to put God above all else, how to give your all to your chosen place of worship, how to cherish the love of your spouse and family, and also how to be passionate and faithful to your chosen profession. As a husband and father, he was the pivot point of a huge, loving family. As a teacher, he was the pivot point of so many classrooms. As a coach, he was the pivot point of so many athletic teams. As a principal and Assistant Superintendent,, he was the pivot point of so many teachers, students and parents. As a church leader, he was the pivot point for so many ministers and church members. We are confident that his legacy of love and faithfulness to God, family and others will live on in your hearts and minds and that your many memories of this special man will bring you comfort in the days ahead. That is our prayer for all who knew and cherished Mr. Lyndon. Our fondest memories of Mr. Lyndon will be the encouraging and resounding "AMEN" immediately after the anthem was sung during Sunday morning worship. He also never failed to remind us that Charlie Tyler and Lyndon Carey are the luckiest men in the world for not only did they "marry up", but they had the love of two of the most beautiful women in the world.
When Lyndon Carey closed his eyes for the last time on this earth, he opened them at the gates of Heaven. Yes...we have lost a man we dearly love, but at the same time Heaven has gained a very special angel...Lyndon Carey...beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather...true Christian! God speed Mr. Lyndon...we love you!
